The Abbotsford Connect Planning Committee is looking for
community members who would like to volunteer at the
annual, community inspired Abbotsford Connect event on
Saturday, October 18th.
Abbotsford Connect is a one-day service event where service providers, local businesses, community and provincial agencies and faith based organizations collaborate to deliver services and supports to individuals experiencing homelessness and to those who are at risk of homelessness. It is held as a “one-stop shop” for people that might not otherwise get the service connections they need. These services include and are not limited to: foot care, haircuts, medical care, clothing exchange and a myriad of mental health and wellness services. In addition, the Connect event provides all attendees with an opportunity to connect and enjoy hot and nutritious meals (breakfast and lunch) in a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment. The event is organized and directed by a Planning Committee represented by over 20 community agencies and partners. Additionally, the event is serviced by local community providers and staffed by enthusiastic and passionate volunteers. Volunteers are essential to Abbotsford Connect events! With more than 30+ service providers providing supports to an animated 350 guests and visitors, we have a number of volunteer roles that must be filled to ensure the Connect event is a valuable and memorable experience. Hosts: Serve as event ambassadors, engage with clients and guests and guide and lead attendees to appropriate areas of service as requested.
Greeter (Event Registration Table): Serve as the initial contact point, welcome guests, provide a map/list of services, help answer event related questions.
Greeter (Volunteer Registration Table): Sign up event volunteers, distribute name tags and maps of facility/services.
Service Provider Table: Sign up service providers, give them forms to log service usage, follow up
throughout the day and collect forms at the end
Runners & Floaters: Provide temporary coverage to service providers (e.g., managing line-ups,
distributing flyers and information packages, registering clients)
Porters & Carriers: Transport water to foot care/haircutting stations, transport coffee and
refreshments, check-in with service areas to see if refreshments are needed.
Clothing Giveaway: Help set-up, arrange and organize clothing prior to the event (Friday eve) and
help us administer, distribute and manage clothing distribution at the event.
Gourmet Coffee/Refreshment Service: Distribute coffee, tea, juice and cookies, keep area clean, get coffee from
kitchen as required, prepare drinks (barista experience an asset)
Photography Service: Assist with managing the intake of individuals, the line-up and ensure photo
release forms are signed.
Foot Care: Assist clients to make appointments, support foot care crew as required
including tranpsorting water to/from the service area
